Tara was born in a small European country of Markovia, located between France, Belgum, and Luxembourg. It is owned and ruled by the entire Markov family. Tara was born an illegitimate child of the ruling king and as such was not considered a member of the royal family, leading to her only knowing her half-brothers in name alone. To avoid a scandal, the king quietly sent Tara and her mother to the United States, sending them checks periodically to take care of them, his only act of kindness towards Tara.

Tara’s love of the outdoors and digging led to her pursual of a degree in archaeology. Unfortunately for her, the professor in charge of the archaeology program at Central City University was of the opinion that women were not suited for this area of academia and had made it his mission to make sure all of the females in the program were woefully unsuccessful and most ended up dropping out of the program within a semester or two of entering.

She found herself at the dig site, alone, the night of the particle accelerator explosion. The blast sent debris from the site everywhere and Tara ended up buried under several inches of dirt. Waking up the next morning, she panicked and the dirt, rocks, and various things flew everywhere, projected away from her body.

At the time she was not sure what had happened but, she has since come to realize that she can do things with the earth. Tara struggles with how to keep her powers a secret while still doing what she loves. She is struggling with finding a purpose for her abilities as she reads about those like the Arrow and the Flash, wondering if she could someday use her abilities to help others.
