When focused, he can create and dispel constructs and areas of total darkness, teleport himself or others massive or short distances via shadows, make himself become intangible for short periods of time by becoming a shadow, or empower himself by absorbing surrounding darkness, and so on.

It was always an ongoing problem, a problem of which that would probably never be solved, especially with the recent Particle Accelerator incident. It caused crime to skyrocket; however, Daniel would always be there to lend a helping hand as long he breathed life, though he knew he couldn't get rid of crime completely. He was still willing to help. So when he reached home after a night out with his buddies he plopped down on his couch, and reached for his police scanner to turn it on. He was then immediately met with the broadcast that they needed police presence down at Gold City bank. A bunch of fugitives held the bank hostage.

He didn't have to worry about hiding his identity as much as some people since he could become a shadow, but even Daniel wasn't that careless. Things still could happen unexpectedly and he was always one to be careful, especially if he was going to embark on this dual life. So on his way back out he grabbed his face mask before disappearing in a mass of darkness.
