Aria was thrilled by the idea of the fair being in town. She would have liked to attend with one of her friends, instead of her two younger siblings, but they were either all busy or hard to contact. Her father had given her plenty of money to make sure that all three of the kids had a good time, so after she paid the entry fee, a woman slapped a wristband onto all of them.
[break][break]
The atmosphere plastered a grin onto the young girl's face. The sticky-sweet smell of caramel apples and fresh cotton candy hung thick in the air, along with the smoke from the caravans selling all sorts of carnival foods. The scents brought rumbles of hunger to her stomach, and she selected a bag of freshly popped kettle corn to munch on while the two younger siblings debated about what ride to ride first.
[break][break]
Popping a handful of popcorn into her mouth, Aria listened to Chloe and Wes argue as they passed by the games. Before long, Wes was pulling at her shirt, “Riri, I want that.” He was pointing at a huge, purple teddy bear that was bigger than he was. “Wes...” she was about to protest when she looked down into his big puppy dog eyes, pleading with his big sister.
[break][break]
She sighed and nodded before she walked up to the water gun game handing the lady a few tickets and taking a seat. When she won him the bear, she was quite pleased with herself, until she realized that she would have to carry the ginormous thing all night since it was too large for Wes or Chloe to carry.

Carnivals and fairs were some of Micah's favorite things... because they were usually packed with people who kept their money in shallow pockets or were too busy trying to keep track of their kids to keep track of their cash. It was rare that he was able to actually buy a decent meal but the people around here made it pretty simple to snag a wallet almost in plain sight with no one the wiser. Usually the most perceptive ones were the nosy ass kids who liked to stare at him... probably because he pretty much always looked like he had climbed out of a dumpster.
Not today, though. It's not like he was perfectly showered and spotless but he had managed to snag a carnival themed t-shirt from one of the merchandise stands and grabbed a black hoodie that someone had draped over the handlebar of a stroller, left unattended while he changed a little one's diaper on a bench. It was still spring so it was warm, but breezy, which to Micah was excuse enough to zip up the jacket and have the hood pulled up. He kept his head down and his face mostly hidden from view, even now as he scarfed down the corn dog he had bought with stolen cash.
As he leaned there against the side of the food truck, enjoying what was probably his first decent meal in over a week, his attention was caught by a girl at a nearby game booth who had a couple of younger kids with her. He watched her quietly, finishing the corn dog and tossing the wrapper into the trash as he nonchalantly eased closer. Micah couldn't help but smile a little as the booth operator handed her a massive purple teddy bear. He couldn't imagine having to drag that thing around... But this just made it easier on him because she had a feeling she would be too overburdened with that thing to even notice if he tried to swipe something from her.
He started towards her, wanting to be careful not to actually knock down one of the younger kids so he pretended to not be looking where he was going and bumped right into her. Quickly he looked at her, his eyes wide as he raised one hand up defensively, the other very casually going behind his back out of sight so she wouldn't see that he now held her wallet in his grasp. "Sorry! Didn't see you there..." he said, easing back away from her slowly, ready to make his getaway.

The carnival worker had passed the bear to her, all she could see was a mass of purple fluffiness coming at her and she sighed, knowing that she was going to be lugging this thing around all night. [break][break] “Alright you two.” Turning she looked at Chloe and Wes, “How about some corny dogs for dinner?” She smiled as they both got excited at the mention of corn dogs. Everyone knew that carnivals had the best corn dogs. [break][break] Aria turned to look around for the closest food stand when she felt someone bump into her, causing her to drop the bear on the ground, which of course made Wes start pouting that the bear was dirty. She frowned at Wes before turning to look at who had bumped into her, “Don't worry about it. No harm done.” The boy looked to be around her age and was actually pretty cute...someone that if she were here with her friends, they would probably be giggling about as he walked away, but right now she had a little guy who was whining about his bear to worry aobut. [break][break] “It's ok, Wes, he can be cleaned up.” She bent down to pick up the bear and reached back to grab her wallet only to find that it was missing. [break][break] “HEY! Stop that guy!” Standing up and turning on her heels, Aria pointed at the boy in the hood and took off towards him with an angry look on her face, “You two don't move,” she called out to her siblings.

By the time she realized that the wallet was gone, Micah had already turned to disappear in the crowd. But then he heard her yell after him and he took off in a run, barely glancing behind him to see how close she was as he pushed his way through the crowd of people. He was careless about it, shoving people out of the way and he probably knocked down more than one child or elderly person in the process. But this was his life. This was what he had to do to survive.
His training in parkour came in handy as he jumped up onto one of the gaming booth counters, climbing and dashing and leaping from one surface to another (and smacking that lever on the dunk tank in the process, much to the delight of a small crowd of little ones). He was gaining distance from the girl, and he grinned to himself as he was sure that he was about to get away with whatever she had in her wallet. Honestly, he wasn't even sure that she had much in the way of cash... most likely ride tickets. Ride tickets that she probably intended to spend on those little kids who were with her.
The weight of guilt formed a sinking feeling in Micah's stomach. It wasn't something he usually experienced. It caught him off guard for sure. And that was probably the reason that he misjudged the distance for that jump toward the ferris wheel. He had intended to climb his way to the top, or close to it, just to buy himself enough time to count the spoils, but the jump was too short and he went tumbling onto the concrete, the wallet sliding from his hand and skidding across the asphalt as her rolled twice before landing flat on his face.

After telling her siblings to stay put and that she would be back for them, Aria’s heart sank briefly when she turned to see that he had all but disappeared into the crowd, the only sign that he had been there at all was the angry people in the crowd that he had pushed his way through, signalling her in the direction she should chase after him. Even with all of the crowd, it was fairly easy to follow his trail as he left disgruntled people in his wake. [break][break] The excuse me and pardon me that Aria said to the patrons as she passed were met with small grunts directed at teens in general as she was lumped with the hooligan she was chasing in the eyes of many of these people. [break][break] She was just about to stop and go back to her siblings when she saw him leaping around, but he was still so far ahead of her that she frowned. There was no way that she was going to be able to catch up to him with the way he was moving now unless he….Well damn...luck was on her side today apparently as he missed his jump. [break][break] As she caught up to him, she grabbed her wallet, keeping it firmly in her hand as she walked over to stare down at him. “I hope you have road rash on your face, asshole.”
